This past year, our 15,000 participants, including casual PAYG attendees and full members, helped us generate a total social value of £1,334,460—that’s an average of £86 per person!
Our more active attendees contributed even more, with an impressive average of around £300 each. We’re thrilled to report a remarkable 76.46% increase in social value this year, showcasing particularly high impact in July and August.
Our continuous year-over-year improvement of 61.91% places us in the top quartile for growth with a ‘social value change’ score of 91 out of 100, highlighting our ongoing commitment to making a positive difference in the community.
Our redevelopment is starting soon and we’re excited to make sustainability a key focus of the project, with a design that reduces both energy use and CO2 emissions. In line with the London Plan’s energy hierarchy, we’re taking three main steps:
We're adopting smart design features like natural daylighting, ventilation, and shading to keep the building cool without relying too much on mechanical systems.
We're incorporating efficient systems like heat recovery ventilation, high-efficiency lighting (LED and fluorescents), and variable-speed pumps and fans to avoid wasting energy.
Solar panels on the south-facing roofs will help generate clean electricity and reduce our overall energy consumption.
Heat recovery systems will help capture warmth that would otherwise be lost, and we'll be using highly efficient heating and cooling methods.
All lighting will be low-energy, and we’ll have smart controls to make sure we’re only using what’s needed.
We’ve reduced the need for cooling through clever design, like window shading and thoughtful building orientation. For spaces like the gym, where cooling is essential, we’ll use efficient mechanical systems.
Our BMS will help monitor energy use and ensure everything is running as efficiently as possible.
We’ll make the most of natural airflow and daylight with openable windows and roof lights (except on the west side to minimise noise).
Solar panels will not only power the building but also help heat the pool, reducing our reliance on traditional energy sources.
By also using sustainable materials like glulam and cross-laminated timber (CLT), leveraging the building’s thermal mass to reduce the need for mechanical cooling, and installing energy-efficient equipment throughout, we’re committed to making this project as eco-friendly as possible!
